Spanish American War (1898)

On April 25 1898, America declared war on Spain. The war took place in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines, Cuba wanted it's freedom the Spanish rule. A war broke out between the two, America decided to intervene. At first President Mckinley wanted to settle the fight rationally but then events started to take place that changed his mind. One event that happened was the sinking of U.S battleship Maine in Havana harbor on February 15 1898. The war ended in December 10 1989 giving America control of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines Cuba and parts of the Spanish of the West Indies. This event was important to history because it gave spanish countries freedom. This is related to other events because Cuba wanted it's freedom from the Spanish rule and would do anything until it got just that.

Women's Suffrage movement (1848)

The first woman's suffrage movement convention was in New York 1848. The movement was started  by Susan B anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and other pioneers. This movement wanted Congress to pass a constitutional amendment allowing women to vote. One way of trying to get heard, the NWP (National Woman's party) sat outside the White house in order to convince President Wilson and the congress to pass the woman's suffrage amendment. Finally in 1920, the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. This is significant to our history because, this movement gave women a voice. This relates to other events because women were finally free to speak their minds.

Opium War (1839)

There have been two Opium wars. The first took place in China 1839. Britain was trading with China when the first war happened. China was sending tea and porcelain to Britain and instead of wanting goods in return, China wanted money. At this time money was silver coins. Soon silver coins started becoming harder to get your hands on due to the vast amounts Britain was paying China. Britain then decided to payback China with Opium, it was cheap and easy to export. Soon as Opium became more popular in China, more and more people were beginning to become addicted to this drug. Due to the negative impact Opium had on China, the Chinese emperor decided to put an end to the Opium trade. He did this by taking away the Opium that made it's way to China and by banning Import. The British were furious and decided to go to war with China. This is important because it Britain would probably not be known for tea if it wasn't for China. Also this was start of the "Century of Humiliation" for China. This connects to the others because China was able to free themselves from the addictive Opium.

Founding of Young Italy (1831)

Young Italy was a political movement founded by Giuseppe Mazzini in 1831, this took place in Italy. The reason for this movement was for Mazzini to one day. unify Italy. Mazzini had a fiery passion to bring Italy together. Luckley, Mazzini was chosen to represent Italy by the people. Then the Italian unification movement started to blossom mid- century. Finally in 1861, Italy became a unified country. Without the unification of Italy the renaissance probably wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't be able to grow and evolve the way we have. This connected to the other events because Italy wanted it's freedom.

Industrialization of Britain (started in the 17th century)

The Industrialization of Britain started in the 17th century. The beginning of the industrialization started with the textile industry. Wool and cotton were in very high demand,England decided to make tools that would help.  After the textile industry Britain's population grew and more and more cities were becoming made. Britain soon started making machines to help out and do most of the work. This is an important part of history because America stole the idea of the textile industry and started making machines of our own. Without the Industrialization Britain we would never have had trains or medicine. This connects with the other events because instead of importing goods, Britain decided to do it's own thing and make it themselves (making them free of trading things they could make.)
